Chances are, if you’re reading this, Halloween is one of your favorite times to exercise your creativity. But when you’re finding innovative ways to haunt your house, don’t forget the triangle-eyed emblem of Halloween– the Jack O’ Lantern. Wanna go really old school? Carve turnips (above). The Irish and Scottish carved the original Jack O’ Lanterns from root vegetables like this before the introduction of Pumpkins from the New World.
